Amaura Aurora by PurplePassion3 Amaura Aurora by PurplePassion3
The hype for Pokemon X and Y is driving me crazy. Amaura's totally my kind of fossil monster! :D I also haven't really made a big project in a while, so here you go! c:
This took pretty much all day, with more than 40 layers. I redid it in the early stages almost five times, and I'm just about satisfied with it. I'd really appreciate if any of you guys could give plenty of feedback on it. :)

Done in Paint Tool SAI
Sky and editing with pixlr
Amaura - Nintendo

I would appreciate critique or feedback on this piece! Thanks!

I know no one is sure at all if Amaura's little gemstone glows or not, most likely the latter, but I just added a glow to make it pretty. :L

brilliant pic, had a hard time coming up with something constructive for this.

the only thing that comes to mind here is that I'm a little confused as to what exactly is where.
one the one hand I keep thinking the aurora is in the sky, as they usually are, but the lighting on the creature and the position of it's eyes suggest it is staring at something bright or luminescent right in front of it.

if it is in fact swirling right in front of the creature, a possible solution to clarify this would be to extend it to below the horizon, so it is clear that's it is not in the sky.
another solution would be to add some sort of glow to the snow right below it, to give it a clear position in relation to the pokemon.

if it's supposed to be in the sky, it might be an idea to change the position of amaura to something either facing directly away from the viewer, of don't have it look at the aurora by facing it away entirely, like it's distracted by something. right now it kinda looks like it's staring off into space or nothingness (nothing wrong with that, I do it all the time)

the only other thing I can come up with is that the left front leg and right back leg seem to be standing in the same position, but that's something you only notice when you stare at the pic for extended amounts of time trying to come up with some constructive criticism for your artist friend to work with.

great work!

Now that you mention it, I do agree that what Amaura here is looking at isn't exactly clear. ^^;
I thought I could sort of make it look like he was looking up towards the sky, and I didn't exactly have much
knowledge on how luminescent auroras can be. It's sort of my weak spot, whenever it comes to darker tones I can get kind of lost. I mean, seeing here that it's night time, things look a bit too bright now that I look at it.
But, I will be sure to work on this next time and make the objects in the piece much clearer as to what is happening.

Thanks alot for the feedback! c:

my pleasure.

I don't think the pic looks to bright overall though; snow has a way of reflecting light all over the place, so it always looks a bit bright anyway.

Yay, thanks! :D
When the game comes out, we should definitely exchange friend codes or connect with each other over wifi. I'd like us to battle or trade sometime, it would be an interesting experience! Also, quick question, which game version are you getting?

That would be a lot of fun! If I can even figure out how to do that, haha. I'm planning on getting X. What about you?

Thanks a lot! c: I admit it was a bit unoriginal, since Amaura and Aurorus's prononciation seems to really revolve around the word "Aurora". :P
I checked out your Aurorus picture, and it looks really neat! I'm glad many others enjoy Amaura and Aurorus's designs so far, everyone else is getting a bit too excited for Tyrantrum. xp

Besides aurora, the Pokemon names are also based on amargasaurus. It is a long necked dinosaur (sauropod) with long spikes on its neck. There is speculation that the spikes supported two sails. It resembles the Pokemon.
